I really think this is an excellent site. In my opinion, it is one
the best, if not the best music history sites on the net. I am
definitely going to bookmark this so I can come back again and again.
I also admire the work put into this page because the info within has
helped me out a great deal with my music independent study. Thank you
so very much for being a dedicated music history person.

This brings back a lot of memories of my college years and early years
of marrage! Strange how some of the songs listed here seem to be a lot
more recent than the seventies! Maybe it's because so many of today's
groups are redoing a lot of "blasts from the past" and the music of the
decades are kind of bluring together. Now where did I put my earth
shoes and bell bottom pants?

was a great decade for music and many other things as well. Thanks for

as well.

You have an incredible site!! I'm 17 and have in the past year or two,
really gotten into seventies music. I'm a huge fan of Zepplin, Boston,
Floyd, Santana, Clapton, The Guess Who, Petty, you name it!!! I'm even
doing a project on how the music of the 70's is so much better and
different than the music of the 90's and I've used your page in my
research. (Hope you don't mind) I was born in 1979 so I missed the
70's but the music lives on and is the best ever!!!

Thank God platform shoes and afros went out of style because I was and
am afraid of heights and all that hair kept me from maintaining my
balance.
My students (6th and 7th graders) look at our styles like something
from the Dark Ages, but, it is interesting to note that a bunch of their
modern stuff is hauntingly familiar.
I wil turn 38 in just two weeks, and there are times I miss the 70's,
but, I think I miss my hair and thin figure even more.
My two sons (8 and 6) think all of my high school annuals are funny too.
Just missed our 20th reunion because I don't feel that old. Besides,
this newly pierced ear may not have settled well with the 'preps' who
were probably the only ones to show up.

Comments:
Interesting to see someone else's 70's. Speaking for myself the
seventies were soul and dance music, that was about 90% of what was
played in the bars and clubs I went to, as well as by my friends. The
rock that's featured here was music of a whole other kind of Seventies,
stuff I heard in passing but never collected, never heard in clubs.
Still, it's part of the Seventies territory - if not my part - lots of
hard work went into the site, and I found it very interesting.

My husband Dennis and I are both "children of the seventies". Boston
and Kansas are our absolute favorites (with my personal seconds being
Journey and Chicago). We both resent that the seventies are defined
by disco. We hated disco then and we hate disco now! Any way, it's
great to touch base with fellow "seventy-ers"!

KILLER site! Here's some info on a new book I've co-written on the
music of 1971-75:
PRECIOUS AND FEW: Pop Music in the Early Seventies
by Don Breithaupt & Jeff Breithaupt
St. Martin's Griffin
$9.95
"Three-time Juno Award nominee Don Breithaupt is the singer/songwriter
behind Monkey House, whose 1992 Aquarius/EMI debut included three Top
20 hits.
"Jeff Breithaupt is the Director of Sponsorship for the New York City
Opera, a Trustee of Paul Newman's new Blue Light Theater Co. and a
freelance journalist."
QUOTE:
"We do not intend to apologize for the seventies. We know the decade
was an orgy of ridiculous trends, facile sloganeering and blow-dried,
self-involved, edible-underwear-munching talk show guests. The thing
is, those strange days produced a bumper crop of great popular music.
The half-decade between 1971 and 1975 saw the emergence of Steely Dan,
Randy Newman, Al Green, Elton John, Rufus, Roxy Music, Bruce
Springsteen, Todd Rundgren, Earth, Wind & Fire, Leon Russell, David
Bowie, the Eagles, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Jackson Browne, Carole
King, War, Isaac Hayes, the Staple Singers, Tower of Power, Little
Feat, Hall & Oates, and Dr. John."
