When I heard the song "they're red hot" the opening was a little weird but I waited and then heard the connection with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and God do I love them. It just made me smile uncontrollably:) love Hugh Laurie💕💕😊😊

I didn't know what to expect. I'm mostly familiar with Hugh's work on "House M.D.", but this was really good. I love his sound and his voice made me feel something. I highly recommend giving this album a listen and watching the show. Can't wait for the next album :)

Not only is his piano and guitar playing incredible, but Hugh's got a fantastic ensemble behind him that is The Copper Bottom Band. Everyone is phenomenal, and the song choices are just really, really great.

The song selection, the interpretation, the performance of the instruments are solid except for Laurie's voice. The affectation grates and kiss each song. I wonder how he'd sound if he weren't covering his accent. His pitch is I be, his sound is full but is sounds lifeless, plastic. I can't listen to the disc it's just too much a hindrance.
Hugh Laurie does it again.

Hugh Laurie is probably my favorite actor. He has created a great album. I read the negative comments and they all have no basis except personal opinion. Don't listen to them. Thanks.

I must have been out to lunch, because I never knew about this ablum. I love the rythum of his music, and the heart felt soul. Props for a great album.
P.S.- The river in Fl. is spelled -"Suwannee", just so you know.

I had no idea he had an album out, but a friend sent me a link to him performing. So I jumped on iTunes and previewed all the songs, and bought it immediately. If you love blues, sit back and enjoy the music. Take a listen if you don't believe us.

A Dr. John album. I love Hugh Laurie and his voice and piano are amazing! But he's way way out of his element here. I'm New Orleanian. These are mostly songs from our weird little catechism. I have NEVER heard anybody yowling quite like Mr. Laurie trying to grope his way through "Tipitina". He just can't pull off the blues; too polished and too privileged.
This album sung by the late great blues woman Amy Winehouse would have been amazing! Pity she never met Tippitina. She just had what it takes to sing the Blues - oddly, English women can pull it off.
This is NOT soul. These are New Orleans Blues. Laurie does well on the Woogie piano style but it's over produced and he just doesn't have the grit and gravel and pain for these songs. His voice is too good.
If Hugh had played and found some N'Awlins fry cook to wail the lyrics this'd be one for the ages. But it's painful. A demonstration of industry kiss up.
Mr Laurie is a wonderful actor and probably quite entertaining. But blues? The one art form where training ruins ability, and this grotesque vocal track proves it.

I don't understand how so many people can give him a low rating! He's got talent, period. I don't care if you don't like his show, do you have any REAL reasons to say that he isn't a good artist? Please... Jealousy at it's top.

Enjoyed every song. After seeing this CD highlighted on CBS Sunday Morning show one week, I had to check it out and sure am glad that I did. I never knew Hugh had this talent. What a joy.
