ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT It isn't often that a TV remake can hold its own with a recognized movie classic, but this expertly crafted and memorably acted drama bears comparison with its illustrious 1930 Hollywood original. Although it lacks the power of its distinguished predecessor, this credible production touches our emotions and shakes us out of our complacency as it unfolds the tale of an idealistic German student turned soldier who comes of age on a World War I battlefield. ALL YOU NEED IS CASH All You Need Is Cash was a film spoof on The Beatles featuring a satirical group calling themselves The Rutles. The group, comprised of Ron Nasty (Innes), Dirk McQuickly (Idle), Stig O'Hara (Fataar), and Barry Wom (Halsey), portrayed characters based on The Beatles and performed original material, written by Innes, based on The Beatles' music. The show aired in the U.S. on March 22, 1978, and included a cameo appearance by ex-Beatle George Harrison. ATTACK ON TERROR: THE FBI VS. THE KU KLUX KLAN Docu-drama from FBI files, tying the murder of three civil rights workers in Mississippi in 1964 to the Klan after a four-year investigation. Good cast and intelligent approach to a basically formula plot. Calvin Clement's teleplay was based on Don Whitehead's book. Above average.
THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MISS JANE PITTMAN Acclaimed drama from Ernest J. Gaines' epic novel covering, through the memories of a fictional 110-year-old slave (Tyson), the black experience from the Civil War to the start of the civil rights movement. Tyson's tour-de-force performance, Korty's subtle direction, and Tracy Keenan Wynn's intelligent script accounted for three of the nine Emmy Awards given to the film, one of the most ambitious ever made for television. BLACK NOON A traveling preacher and his young wife stumble upon an odd religious sect in the American west. Last shot of film explains all. Average.
THE BLUE KNIGHT Holden gives gritty, Emmy-winning performance as Bumper Morgan, the hero of Joseph Wambaugh's best-selling novel about an aging L.A. street cop. Morgan's last four days on the job find him obsessed with finding a prostitute's killer, while his girlfriend (Remick) anxiously awaits the hour of his retirement. Well-done, authentic police story, superbly performed. Cut down from original four-part, 200-minute presentation for TV syndication. Above average.
BORN INNOCENT Graphic story of teenaged girl's struggle to adjust to rigors of tough juvenile detention home. Uncompromising film, distinguished in its original showing by a realistic rape of Blair by her fellow inmates (now cut from film). Otherwise, played for the sensational; average. THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE A teenager is forced to live in physical and emotional isolation, having been born with an immunity deficiency, and is faced with a life or death situation when he falls in love with girl next door. A BRAND NEW LIFE A believable melodrama centering on a middle-aged couple reacting to the unexpected prospect of having their first child. Remarkable script (by Jerome Kass and Peggy Chandler Dick) and performances. Above average.
BRIAN'S SONG An exceptional film relating the real-life relationship between Chicago Bears football players Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers, and the tragedy which affects entire team when Piccolo develops cancer. THE BROTHERHOOD OF THE BELL An ambitious but hollow story of Ford (in his TV dramatic debut) determined to investigate a strange secret fraternity which is bigger and more powerful than he'd imagined. Average.
CAGE WITHOUT A KEY Teen-aged girl (Dey) innocently finds herself accomplice to a robbery and murder when she accepts a ride from a stranger, and then is wrongly sentenced to jail. Tedious, run-of-the-cellblock tale, resembles a 1940s B-movie. Below average.
THE CALL OF THE WILD Stark but quite graphic remake of Jack London's 1903 tale of gold fever and adventure in the Klondike. In this version, John Beck is an eager greenhorn and Fresson is a veteran prospector, but the star is a sled dog named Buck, who faces the hazards of man as well as nature. Script by James Dickey. Above average.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER A sentimental Depression era tale about an elderly farm couple who take in their city-bred adolescent grandson for the holidays. A CIRCLE OF CHILDREN Beautifully acted drama about an affluent suburbanite (Alexander) whose volunteer work with emotionally disturbed children fills the void in her life. Mary MacCracken's autobiographical novel served as the basis for this sensitive, intelligent film. Jane Alexander's superb performance is matched by that of Rachel Roberts as a gifted, demanding teacher who regards the volunteer as merely a hostess out of place. Script by Steven Gethers, based on Mary MacCracken's experiences and books. Above average. Sequel: Lovey: A Circle of Children, Part II.
THE CITY BENEATH THE SEA It is 2053 A.D.: Colonists in the first underwater city struggle through their first year of attempted invasions, ocean horrors, and interpersonal squabbles. Better than average production values thanks to Irwin Allen. Script by John Meredyth Lucas. Above average.
A COLD NIGHT'S DEATH An exceptional, offbeat mixture of psychological and physical terror in the story of two scientists replacing a dead predecessor in a wasteland research laboratory. Watch out for that ending. Written by Christopher Knopf. Above average.
THE CONNECTION A deliberately intricate tale of a go-between (Durning) arranging a meeting between a jewel thief and insurance company representatives, capped by a mad car chase on Manhattan's West Side. Flawless pacing, great performances, and a good script by Albert Ruben. Above average.
CONSPIRACY OF TERROR Husband-wife detective team investigates the case of a man who literally was scared to death and is confronted with Satanism in suburbia. Comedy-drama, with the "cute" touch of having the ethnically mixed pair working different shifts. Average.
THE CORN IS GREEN Classy remake of the 1945 movie about a spinster teacher bringing education to a North Wales mining community. The story is beginning to wear a bit, but glistens with Hepburn's tour-de-force performance (in her tenth and final teaming with director Cukor) and on-location filming. Above average. CROWHAVEN FARM A middle-aged couple (Lange and Burke) inherit a farm, move in to patch up their strained marriage, and eventually adopt a child who becomes the focal point in a supernatural flashback story. A surprise ending in a generally well-handled thriller. Written by John McGreevey. Above average.
THE DARK SECRET OF HARVEST HOME A leisurely gothic horror tale set in a New England village where Bette and other weirdos maintain a ritualistic life-style, to the dismay of a commercial artist who has moved his family there from Manhattan. THE DARKER SIDE OF TERROR An inept psychological thriller about a researcher who agrees to have himself cloned and then must fight his look-alike for his wife's affections. Below average.
DAWN: PORTRAIT OF A TEENAGE RUNAWAY Fifteen-year-old Plumb turns to prostitution in Los Angeles when she cannot find legitimate work after running away from her cocktail waitress mom Carlin. Serious social issue exploited for cheap sensationalism. Below average. Sequel: Alexander: The Other Side of Dawn.

DEATH SCREAM Thriller, based on the Kitty Genovese murder in New York City, involves fifteen neighbors who witnessed the killing, did nothing to help, and refused to cooperate with police. THE DEVIL'S DAUGHTER At the funeral of her mother, Montgomery is befriended by Winters, who claims a long friendship with the deceased; actually Montgomery is needed to fulfill a pact in a Devil-worshipping group. A great Rosemary's Baby-ish premise is rendered inconsequential by indifferent dialogue, acting and direction. Written by Colin Higgins. Average.

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF AIMEE Period drama covering, through a courtroom hearing, the sensational disappearance and reapperance of the famed preacher, Aimee Semple McPherson, in 1926. DO NOT FOLD, SPINDLE, OR MUTILATE Four elderly ladies, practical-joke enthusiasts, create a mythical girl for a computer dating questionnaire, then thirst for even more bizarre thrills. The way in which the prank turns frightening could've been handled far, far better, otherwise good performances. Average.
DR. COOK'S GARDEN Frank Converse's return to Greenfield, Vermont, and the kindly doctor who raised him degenerates into cheap horror by the halfway mark. Even Bing Crosby as the central character can't cut it. Adapted from a play by Ira Levin. Below average.

DRACULA The indomitable count of Transylvania lives in the person of Palance, who plays Bram Stoker's vampire king as a slightly pathetic figure, a victim of twisted fate. Sterling cast, Richard Matheson's faithful adaptation, and Oswald Morris' exceptional photography, rich in gothic touches, add to this classy new version of the old chestnut. Above average. DUEL A businessman driving rented car on lonely stretch of road begins to realize that the driver of a diesel truck (whom he cannot see) is out to get him. ELVIS: THE MOVIE The Presley saga affectionately and believably retold, from his youth to his career as a club entertainer in 1969. Russell is surprisingly effective as Elvis, whose songs were dubbed by country singer Ronnie McDowell. EVIL ROY SLADE Excellent cast tries hard in an absurd attempt at bizarre Western comedy à la Cat Ballou. The life and times of bumbling outlaw Slade and his change in attitude after falling in love with a beautiful girl (Austin). THE EXECUTION OF PRIVATE SLOVIK Solid drama enhanced by Martin Sheen's beautiful performance as Eddie Slovik, the only American soldier since the Civil War to be executed for desertion (in 1945). THE EYES OF CHARLES SAND Despite excellent names connected with the script (Henry Farrell & Stanford Whitmore), a predictable, largely boring ESP-gimmicked mystery featuring a troubled lead character (Haskell) who can flash onto the future. Average.
THE FAILING OF RAYMOND Forgettable suspense drama about a mental defective youth threatening a high school teacher who flunked him in English. The film looks as if it was directed by hypnosis. Below average.

FRIENDLY FIRE Gripping if overlong Emmy-winning drama about a rural American couple who try to cope with governmental indifference to learn the truth behind their son's death in Vietnam. JUDGE HORTON AND THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS Excellent courtroom-based drama detailing the 1931 rape trial of nine blacks and the embattled Southern judge who presided over the proceedings. Hill is the backbone of virtue as the courageous judge, who bravely reversed the jury's popular decision and saved several of the accused from hanging at the risk of his own career and safety. The story is cogently adapted from the book The Scottsboro Boys and superbly directed by Fielder Cook. THE MIRACLE WORKER Powerful refilming of the William Gibson classic about young Helen Keller's first encounters with Anne Sullivan, who would be her teacher and life-long companion. Having Patty Duke Astin, who won an Oscar as Keller in a 1962 big screen version -- play Sullivan was more a novelty than an inspired piece of casting, making this one just a notch below its predecessor. THE MISSILES OF OCTOBER Originally an ABC Theatre presentation, this well-handled depiction of President Kennedy's trials during the Cuban missile crisis was one of television's first docudramas. William Devane's superb portrayal (he was one of the first actors to play JFK) brought him a great deal of attention, and Martin Sheen provides fine support as brother Robert. Above average. Lighthearted Western by Christopher Knopf tries vainly to recapture the charm of its blockbuster predecessor. QB VII Leon Uris's effective courtroom drama introduced the mini-series to a mass American audience, and like many of its successors, this one is a mixture of the soapy and the serious, the oversimplified and the genuinely compelling. The case is libel: The plaintiff is a respected Jewish doctor (Anthony Hopkins) and the defendant is an American author (Ben Gazzara) who painted him as a war criminal in a thinly disguised characterization in a novel. Based on a real suit brought against Uris after the publication of Exodus. Fine acting from all the principals, especially Jack Hawkins and Emmy-winner Anthony Quayle. Above average. Brad Dourif is, for once, remarkably restrained and effective as a reluctant hero coming to grips with his sexuality and finding the courage to confront the homophobic attitude of the military establishment. It involved a pregnant young wife who, with the help of an older man (a historian?), researches the history of the location of the house she's living in. It turns out that the house was built on the site of a witch's execution. The film ends with the statement that the child the young wife is carrying grows up to have an odd laugh, like the witch who was executed on the site centuries. Hi Melissa! After many years of searching, I finally found the title to this movie. "Daddy, I Don't Like It Like This" was broadcast back in July 1978 on CBS (I was a few years off the mark here) with Doug McKeon as Peter Agnelli, a shy and sensitive boy living in an abusive environment. Burt Young and Talia Shire (of Rocky fame) play his insufferable parents, Rocco and Carol Agnelli. The movie has been uploaded and is available for viewing on Youtube.

I finally figured this out. I've been searching for the name of this movie for years too with no luck, but I was reading through all the synopsis in the database and came across "Daddy, I Don't Like It Like This", a CBS tv movie from 1978. I remembered the dad wearing boxing gloves, the little boy having light blonde hair and blue eyes. I remembered feeling more disturbed by it because when I was little I thought the boy looked so much like my brother. I seemed to recall that the father bullied the little boy a lot and wanted him to be tough, and of course I remembered the tragic ending. I watched this by myself as a child in a hotel room (always had insomnia) while my family was asleep sometime in the 80s, and I never forgot about the story, but I never knew the name of it until now. Unfortunately I can't find it anywhere to watch or buy.

I am seeking the name of a made-for-TV 70s movie (airplane crash, teen-age daughter).
I distinctly recall a (possibly made-for-TV) movie having a scene in which a very proud teen-aged daughter of a man who often piloted a small aircraft was admiringly watching her father's airplane only to witness moments later the plane go out of control and crash. For some reason, I seem to recall the Nilsson song "Without You" playing either while the plane was going down, or immediately after it crashed.
I always thought the daughter might have been Lisa Gerritsen ("My World and Welcome To It"), but her filmography does not include a movie that fits my description.

I have been looking for this movie a long time. It was a made for TV movie (possibly LMN) about a woman who leaves her husband and kidnaps her young daughter and goes on the run for years with her. It takes place in the south. The woman cons and writes bad checks to survive and intermittantly actually works, but is eventually caught up with. Her daughter is sent back to her Grandma's house. Several years go by, the daughter is now grown and her Mom has been in prison but is finally released. She also has a terminal illness. In the end, Mom/Daughter have a good relationship. The title was like a children's poem. I think it was made in the late 70s. Mom was a blond, daugther was played by a famous child actress. I would love to see the movie again.

There was a movie I saw as a kid in the late 70s/early 80s on one of those late night programs, perhaps during the La Bries late night shows. I remember there being this large manor, maybe some type of institute or a school, in the country with huge green lawns and trees - almost like an English countryside manor. There were a bunch of young 20-somethings and one of the girls was blind. I am not sure if any of the others were. She end up getting stalked by a man. For some reason she is alone in the place; I can't remember itf it was because the others had left or if they were also killed. It seems that it looked like the movie was a late 60s early 70s. I remember a "After School Special" type of show (but, I don't think it was an After School School). It was about a twelve year old boy. He hurt his leg while sliding into a base during a game of baseball. An x-ray showed it was bone cancer. At first, the doctor thought he could just remove and replace that section of bone and save the leg. Later, he determined it would cause nerve damage and that he will have to remove the leg (I thought as a kid, so what if you have a limp!). He had to come to terms with losing the leg.

Found this and I'm going to give it a shot. I've had trouble finding a couple movies from the 70's. The first is a movie about a couple young guys in a hot rod that travel the roads looking for drag races from unsuspecting locals. They have a prototype intake manifold on their motor that they keep hidden. During the movie they run from the law and angry folks they cheated out of money. The other movie is a version of Robin Hood that had Robin join forces with the bandits in the forest to fight against the sheriff's men. Not an unusual plot but during the meeting of Robin and Lil John, Robin discovers that the staff's the men use are loaded with metal inside of the staff to re-enforce it's strength. That particular detail doesn't interest me much, but I'm using that as something that separates the movie from the other versions of Robin Hood.

I'm looking for a tv movie in the 70's or 80's about a black man and a white man. They were friends in the rural south. The black boy ran away after an incident that he thought he would be blamed for. He returned many years later as a sheriff, but never let on as to who he really was. Only an old aunt that lived in the black rural area of town knew who he was. His friend did not recognize him, but felt a sense of familiarity. As sheriff he had many racial problems, especially from a town bully named Foxy. Eventually, everything was cleared up and the sheriff let it be known who he was. As kids the white boy had a horse and before the black kid ran away he told his friend "you must fed him a carrot everyday" At the end he repeated the sentence while giving the horse a carrot, letting his idenity be known. His friend recognized him, they laughed and embraced.

A movie I saw on TV in the mid to late 70's had a woman who was kidnapped and held hostage in a van with a bomb on it with a timer set to explode. I kind of remember the van being parked in a parking lot outside a baseball stadium (maybe?). Anyway, I think the guys that were holding her hostage changed their mind and were trying to rush back to get her out of the van before it exploded but they were too late and I think it exploded anyway. Might be "Murder at the World Series", 1977, with the Houston Astros. The hostages in the van were wives of real-life MLB players; they escape before the explosion, but the bad guys don't know that. I'm pretty sure this was shot at the Houston Astrodome, using real Astros players, ~1983-'86.

VHS Recorders were released here, in Brazil, only in 1982, by Sharp, and, in that specific year, it used to cost a lot of money, difficult to buy for middle class famlilies, such as mine. The first one I bought, got me so excited, that I had, during a time, more than 20 videoclub membership cards. Hi anyone remember a movie about a young teen and the child she watches who witness a deadly hit and run by a teacher at her school who she later finds out is her father. He coerces her into keeping it secret but the child starts saying things and the teen begins to worry about the little girl's safety. It ends with some kind of boat competition and when the teacher/father knocks the child into the water and into the path of a speeding boat, the teen jumps in to save her. The teacher/father jumps in to save the teen/daughter and is killed. I think it was based on a book. Does it ring a bell?

In the late 1970s while still a young boy growing up in Australia, I recall seeing a tiny part of what was either an American movie, Telemovie or even just a American TV show on the TV. What caught my attention was a scene in which a young women or teenage girl was having a party at her house to presumably celebrate her birthday. During proceedings a bunch of thugs crash the party and assault the young lady. One of the thugs said "SO THIS IS THE PARTY GIRL AH" and then proceeded to rip the dress she was wearing. Just as things were getting hot an old man (possibly her father or grandfather) comes down stairs with a shotgun and threatened the thugs until they left. Unfortunately, not long after that my mother turned the TV off and I never ever saw anymore of it. I think the scene was probably too strong or explicit to have been in any U.S soap Opera at the time, so I can hopefully discount it from being in an old soap episode that will never be seen again. But for too many years now I've wondered what that TV show/Movie was. Does it at all sound familiar to anyone and do they know what this 1970 s show/movie it could have been?

Looking for a tv movie from the mid to late 70s where a mother and father decide to abandon their kids at a gas station because they were too poor to take care of them. The idea was that the kids would be put into foster homes where they would get better care and then the parents would return to find them after they got back on their feet again. There were about 5 or 6 kids from ages 6 to 17 and they had to learn how to survive on their own. I didn't get a chance to watch it all the way through.

Please help me. I'm looking for a made for tv movie, either (late 70s to early 80s) about a pregnant woman and her baby who was promised to the devil without her knowing. A scene at the beginning of the film, she shows almost running over a person with rain hood over his head. He was a man with his face all white, follower of the satanic cult.
She moves to a small town that is her husband's family (looks like the actor Richard Dean Anderson), which is an accomplice to everything. There she discover the rituals and decides to run away. The entire city, including the police, are part of the cult.

In the middle of the night he crept out and with a syringe drug the woman to make sure she did not awake. He then proceeded to saw off the mans head. Watching this at the age of Twelve, Scared The Living Hell out of Me. Anyone any idea What The Hell! i'm on about?.

When I was a kid around 1970's I was watching a movie but I do not remember the title. It is a family movie about a boy was born with a lack of immunity system and he must live in a sterile room/chamber. Finally, he tried to escape from its room and try to go home although he does not know where his house is. Finally he reached his parents' house but he is dying because of no immune defense system and he died and hug by both his daddy and mom in their arms. The opening scene had a flat saucer (humped up in the middle like Hoss Cartwright's hat) flying over the ocean, then diving into it towards an underwater pyramid I think. There is a rogue alien they have to find, and they enlist the help of some genius scientist and another man. As the saucer flies out of the solar system, the scientist watches the planets come up and the aliens tap into his brain to gather info on each planet, like mass, so they can properly use each planet's gravity to hurl them out of the solar system to catch the bad alien. I have been looking for a movie I watched on TV in the 70's or 80's I know the title of the movie had the word PROMISE in it about a man who's wife died leaving him to raise his 4 boys which became too much for him and he was unable to care for them and therefore they were taken away from him which broke his heart. I'm looking for a 70's movie or TV show about a group of people who are either in a commune or group therapy out in the country who get preyed on by werewolves. (All I really recall is an ethnically mixed group lounging around on a treehouse platform talking?) The group gets picked off one by one. The leader/psychologist falls for a young woman from a neighboring farm and at the end of the movie she asks him to read bible verses over the graves at the back of her family's home. She tells him that no matter what he hears, he mustn't stop reading and he mustn't turn around. Cue growling and howling as he reads in broad daylight. After he finishes, he turns and the family and their farmhouse is gone. The final scene as I recall it is him standing there shouting, "Where is the house?!?" Anyone else remember this?

i'm looking for 3 very hard to find movies i watched as a child in the 70s. 1st about flight 19 and other bermuda triangle survivors living on an island with no way to leave. 2nd very end of movie shows couple in some sort of loft and devil comes and takes them. shows fire and pitch fork. (very scary) 3rd at the end of movie the house disappears maybe something to do with aliens (this one came on the sci fi channel in the early 80s)

I believe the third movie is called The Day Time Ended. A solar powered house gets sucked into a time warp. A little alien creature, the usual monsters, a flying vacuum cleaner type thing. Nothing at all like the movie poster.

i recently watched that one on roku. i was excited i thought that might be it. but it was'nt. the one i'm thinking of seemed like late 70s maybe even 80. any ideas about the others. at the end it was like the house folded in or collapsed on the ground then disappeared. -----

I'm looking for a 70's movie I saw when I was very young and don't remember the plot very well, but I believe it was about a man who was born with problems and spent all his life in coma in a hospital. One day the doctors manage to wake him up and he has to learn everything like a baby, only he's a grown up man. He escapes the hospital and a woman has to go after him. I'm not sure this is the right plot, but I clearly remember a scene where he was in a train and sees a woman with an apple, and he behaves like a child saying "apple", scaring the woman. I've been looking for this film for years, but nobody seems to know about it. Can anybody help, please?
